When you ask yourself “how can I help nature?”, you are already putting yourself in a superior position, without realizing it and without bad intention. But walking quietly through nature, becoming a silent and attentive witness, you notice that the systems around you are so complex and interconnected, so overwhelming, that your heart no longer allows you to see yourself as separate from all those cycles and braids. You rediscover your place in the heart of things and understand that nature does not need your help – it is much better to say that you need air to belong to it.

This is the mentality from which artist Alina Ușurelu and researcher Anastazija Dimitrova (North Macedonia, expert in forestry) started in the artistic research residency “All Sorts of Care… For Nature: Ways of Giving Back”, the the third artistic residency within the All Sorts of Care project, which focused throughout the year on the concept of caring for oneself and for everything that surrounds us, either through therapeutic laughter, through understanding and valuing the experience that comes with age, or , in this case, by redefining identity in relation to nature.

The residency team spent two weeks in the natural space around Socolari in the Cheile Nerei – Beușnița Nature Reserve, developing a working methodology, a language on the border between performance art and science, and now they will present the results of the residency at Faber, on the banks of the Bega River .

Alina Ușurelu is a multidisciplinary artist who lives in Bucharest. He uses images, words and his own body to open the public’s access to unseen worlds. She is interested in the intersections of diverse backgrounds, fields, cultures, and speculative narrative threads. The themes he addresses in his artistic proposals are related to sexuality and sexual identity, mental health and the relationship with nature, with the more-than-human world.
