We are delighted to invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Turn Signals - Design Is Not a Dashboard", part of the Bright Cityscapes program, organized by FABER and Polytechnic University of Timișoara, within the agenda of Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture. The exhibition explores the role of design in the city's ecosystem and proposes a fresh perspective on its role and how we use it.

The exhibition addresses both those directly involved in shaping the city's development in terms of urban, digital, social, and economic aspects, as well as all Timișoara residents and curious visitors eager to discover and understand the strong connection between industry, as the predominant economic sector, the city's present, and its future.

Demonstrating that design has a wider reach, a series of works in the exhibition are the results of multidisciplinary collaborations between researchers from UPT and international designers. The entire exhibition approach and curatorial concept are anchored in a commissioned report that explores Timisoara’s historical and contemporary economic and geographical context, led by sociologist Norbert Petrovici. Turn Signals employs different design media, storytelling, and lexicons to dislocate hidden narratives and untapped potential within Timisoara.

We invite you to discover the fruits of the collaboration between design, academic research, and industry at the exhibition's opening on September 7th at 6:30 PM.

The opening will be followed by a concert by Șuie Paparude, with the Zimbru band as the opening act.

Curated by Martina Muzi, the exhibition is a component of the Bright Cityscapes program, part of the Timișoara - European Capital of Culture 2023 program. The program has commissioned original research and supported multidisciplinary teams to develop projects that use design for investigation, aiming to engage Timisoara’s manufacturing and academic ecosystems to transition from incidental design. Also included is the Atlas of Distances exhibition, arising from a collaboration between three design schools, running from September.
