Design Signals – The "Chemical Bonds" Exhibition

HOSTED Exhibitions

What kind of design practices are possible when access is restricted, when knowledge is fragmented, and when an entire industry remains partially invisible?

With these questions we open the "Chemical Bonds" exhibition on September 26th at FABER, through which we investigate the chemical industry and the potential of design to intervene in its processes.

As part of the Design Signals program, we continue the process begun in 2023 and this year we turn our attention to this complex and fragmented industry. Being one of the most important and controversial industrial branches, it produces the materials that shape the world around us. Its knowledge has transformed society for centuries, and its impact is reflected both on our bodies and on the environments in which we live, where pollution and the solutions to reduce it are found within the same framework of innovation.

Expoziția ”Legături Chimice” investighează fluxurile de materiale, expertiză și forță de muncă în peisajul chimic, și ce perspective poate aduce designul în acest context. 🔬

The exhibition brings together works by designers and researchers, alongside a sociological report signed by Norbert Petrovici, interviews with industry experts and former factory workers, photographic documentation from field visits, and a journalistic investigation into various perspectives on the green transition, based on three case studies. The exhibited projects address environmental policies, regulatory standards, the valorization of local resources, as well as the fragmentation of industrial infrastructure and the absence of links between the components of the production chain.

”Legături Chimice” nu oferă soluții, ci, prin practici contemporane de design, ridică întrebări, face vizibile părțile invizibile ale industriei și creează un cadru de discuții din care pot apărea noi perspective.

At the exhibition opening, we are also launching the concept of "The Kitchen", a new space where you will discover chemical combinations dedicated to your taste buds, which will operate in tandem with the "Chemical Bonds" exhibition.

The exhibition will remain open until November 16th and can be visited from Tuesday to Friday between 12:00 – 20:00, Saturday between 11:00 – 22:00, and Sunday between 11:00 – 18:00.
