About the workshops

CORK ORNAMENTS with Alex Todirică

This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the concept of upcycling, inviting children to transform everyday materials into holiday decorations. We will be working with recycled cardboard and plastic corks or caps from packaging not accepted in the RetuRO SGR program, such as those from cleaning products or detergents.

By combining shapes, colors, and textures, participants create decorative ornaments for the Christmas tree, making each piece unique and personal. The workshop emphasizes the creative process and an understanding of the value of reused materials, demonstrating how objects considered waste can take on a new meaning.

In the end, children take home decorations they’ve crafted themselves, along with a more mindful perspective on the relationship between creativity and environmental responsibility.

POP! A HOUSE! – Relief Printing Workshop – Graphics Explained for Kids with Mimi Ciora

In this 2-hour workshop, children will experiment with a relief printing technique inspired by linocut, but simplified and kid-friendly, using soft styrofoam plates. We will draw on them, pressing in lines and shapes, and then print everything on paper, discovering together how relief images appear. Our theme is a Timișoara winter landscape.

Children can freely interpret the city's shapes: windows, rooftops, and decorative details. Along with houses, we will add trees, lights, snowdrifts, and non-human beings that live alongside us—an owl, a sparrow, or any creature invented on the spot. Along the way, we'll talk about relief printing, how it works, and why simple shapes and lines can create very expressive images.

The workshop is suitable for children aged 8 to 12, with a maximum of 15 participants. All materials are provided, and by the end, each child will take home their own printed and framed artwork.

Sculpting Workshop for Kids – Using Modeling Clay

In this workshop, children discover the art of working with clay and the joy of hand-modeling, starting from simple shapes and progressing to decorative objects of their own creation.

Each participant receives a pre-prepared clay slab of the ideal thickness for working. Using cookie cutters, the children cut out the base of their object, and from the remaining material, they build small decorations: applied elements, details, or textures. Using modeling tools (clay loops and styluses), they will create incisions and marks that personalize the final shape.

The workshop emphasizes the process, hands-on work, and the freedom to experiment in a relaxed, child-friendly setting.

In the end, each child keeps their own sculpted decorative piece—a unique object resulting from imagination and mindful play.

Cardboard Mini Trees

An arts & crafts creative workshop where children are invited to use their imagination to build a tree out of cardboard and paper. Starting from simple shapes, each participant decorates their work at their own pace, adding colors, textures, and details.

In the end, children take home a Christmas decoration they’ve crafted themselves, designed to find a special place in their own space.
